The inspiration for “Floral Anatomy” bloomed after I heard this Neil deGrasse Tyson quote “I would request that my body in death be buried not cremated, so that the energy content contained within it gets returned to the earth, so that flora and fauna can dine upon it, just as I have dined upon flora and fauna during my lifetime.”
Each piece is a shrine to a particular part of the body and is inspired by Tyson’s statement of returning to the earth. I want to show the body in a scientific way that looks less like an anatomical diagram and more like a poem of our insides. Many of my pieces focus on the harmony between humans/animals intertwined with earthly and celestial elements.
