Lately I've been painting pieces that have got me thinking of something much larger than myself. There is such a huge health community out there of people with similar circumstances and experiences and I wanted to do something that would help them. When I had mentioned on Instagram that I would be painting floral kidneys, I received so many messages from kidney donors and transplantees as well as Nephrologists telling me their personal kidney journeys and how excited they were to see how the paintings would turn out. It was really overwhelming in such a positive way that I wanted to start donating some of the sales to organizations that I felt would utilize those funds for good.

I've decided to start a series of "charity prints" where 10% of sales will be donated to medical organizations that work with patients and funding to help people in need. So far in this series I've made a Tulip Kidney, Floral Kidney, and Floral Liver that benefit the American Kidney Fund and the American Liver Foundation.

I'm hoping to add a new lung piece to the series for Cystic Fibrosis as well as another brain piece and maybe more. Sometimes I don't feel like I'm doing much to help in a world that truly needs all the help it can get, so I feel at the very least this can be a small part of something I can do. This piece kind of came as an accident and was originally planned to take a completely different route. That's one the best and scariest things about painting though, and luckily this came out much more beautiful than I imagined. The veins were painted green last minute and I had planned on more flowers, but when something just feels done, I try to listen.

The past few floral anatomy pieces have been primarily grey and pink, and honestly I don't think I necessarily planned it that way, but lately I've been loving using more pinks for organ related work. Something softer about it maybe? Not sure, but I may paint a few more pieces this way before switching things up. I'm hoping to get a square format grey anatomy piece done and then post another floral bundle like this one, but with the grey backgrounds. 

The original painting can be seen currently at Integris Cancer Institute till September 8th, and prints can be found in my etsy shop as well as some retailers. I'm hoping to paint more anatomical hearts as they're so beautifully versatile. The next heart I'm attempting will be a nebula! I'm excited to see how it evolves. <3

One of my favorite paintings I've made recently is this floral uterus piece from early March. I wanted to use flowers that enhanced the natural look of a real uterus with an iris as the womb and vagina, and Queen Anne's lace as the ovaries. I love this piece so much and during my research for floral inspiration I ended up with so many amazing reference photos that I hope to paint a few more variations of this. Hope you all love! I've been a little MIA lately and that's mostly due to the fact I packed things up and moved to a larger studio. I'm so excited to have more space, light, and the sweetest little balcony. It's still a little too chilly, but I'm really looking forward to bringing my oils outside and painting in the sunshine.

This space is only temporary since we will be moving this summer, but for the moment it's nice to enjoy all the new places we've been able to visit/live. 

Scanned version of one of my sirens. I have several in progress atm, and I can't wait to see how each piece will emerge into it's own being. One of my favorite things about painting is the process of layering. Each layer brings with it new depth, life, and mistakes, which results in this new creation that has so much energy to it. It's the reason I love painting so much.

Also wanted to mention I now have Orion Nebula prints in my shop. I love the crispness and color in these prints; they turned out incredibly lovely. Painting galaxies and nebulae has proven to be a very spiritual and calming experience.

I recently finished this celestial siren oil painting and I'm completely smitten. She doesn't have a name yet, though I'm leaning towards something like Luceria. The reference photo was taken from this lovely photo of Kassi Smith by Kenny Sweeney. I have a few more sirens in the works that I'm pretty excited about; this whole series has me pretty excited.

It feels good to be working on a larger scale than I'm used to. There's more freedom with my brushstrokes and that's a a really wonderful feeling.
