As some of you know, I'm originally from Oklahoma and currently living in Texas. I really really like Texas. I also really love Oklahoma (specifically OKC). I'm constantly torn on the issue of where I want to live, but right now Texas feels good. I'll be living in Austin for a bit in the Fall, which I'm very much looking forward to. Maybe OKC in the future, but I honestly can't decide, so I'm deciding to not think about it. Sometimes I drift more towards the idea of owning very few items and just moving from city to city every few months. Essentially, this is what I'll be doing next Fall for about 9 months, 3 cities. I guess I'll find out then whether I like moving around or not ;)

^^ Onto studio things, I have new prints in the shop this week! New prints of Ghost Cat and White Moth come in 5x5 or 8x8 inches. They're cute little creatures.

^^ My studio lately. Every spring my palette gets a little bit more colorful. It's kind of nice.

^^ These little guys just got shipped off to Seattle for a show at Twilight Gallery. I don't think I've mentioned here my obsession with the PNW. Or maybe I have? Either way, it's on the top of my list of places to visit (along with Marfa & NOLA…so random I know). A little road trip along the Washington and Oregon coast would be a dream. I also wouldn't mind crossing the border to visit Vancouver and Victoria.

Speaking of Victoria I picked up this pretty white Victoria(n) frame in Houston (remember the black version here). This one is also in the shop

I'm still working on Luna and she's almost done! I've been fussing with her hair and driving myself crazy for a day or two (all good now). After that I'll have more large pieces of celestial ladies in the works as well as some smaller black butterflies and moths. And I need to make more necklaces too.

Have a great weekend! <3

I'm currently in that art mode where you have so many ideas you don't know where to begin.  Maybe this is a good problem to have, but it still feels daunting not knowing where to start.  I have plenty of sketches and pieces sort of mapped out in my mind, but I've been very hesitant to start putting these ideas on canvas... I feel like I need some sort of push to get me going.

I've also been extremely stressed with trying to get smaller works ready for the holiday season as well as preparing for a few commissions.  I'm hoping to knock some of this out over the weekend because it's building up fast and my nerves can't handle it.

27 THINGS BEFORE TURNING 27
DSC_0983.jpg

So I turned 26 the other day.  It's weird being closer to 30 than to 20, but oddly enough I think I'm okay with that.

I wanted to make a little list of 27 things to do before I turn 27…I've made lists like this in the past and it's fun to just look back and see what was important to you a certain time in your life.  For instance when I did a 25 before 25 I wrote things like: play on a beach at midnight, go to Europe, do a daily art journal, get a tattoo, read more classics, etc.  Never got the tattoo, but the rest I did (although I could read more).

I don't really plan to have them all checked off, but it will be nice to keep up with them as a goal reminder.

27 THINGS TO DO BEFORE I TURN 27

1. Campout on a beach and watch the sunrise.

2. Stargaze. (So simple yet how often do we really do this? Not enough).

3. Apply to more juried shows and get into at least two.

4. Experiment more with oil on wood.

5. Spend an entire weekend without social media.

6.  Watch at least 5 documentaries.

7.  Be able to identify at least a few trees & plants (knowing the correct names).

8.  Visit at least one new state.

9.  Learn more about other planets.

10.  Send more handwritten letters and less Facebook messages.  REAL birthday cards.

11.  Go to at least two museums.

12.  Read all of the LOTR books.

13.  Explore more of Houston.

14.  Explore more of the west end of Galveston.

15.  Sketch/paint outside.

16.  Eat less bread & less sugar.

17.  Skinnydip.

18.  Paint more portraits.

19.  Actually read the books on my bookshelf.

20.  Learn more about screen printing.

21.  Learn more about cultures/species and their rituals.

22.  More candid photos.

23.  More home videos.

24.  Expand my shop.

25.  Play in the rain.

26.  Do things for others without expecting anything in return.

27.  Support local shops/restaurants.

Insta-Love: Life lately, according to Instagram

Some snapshots from my iPhone from the past few weeks.  Lately I've been obsessed with painting constellations and sleeping animals, although this is an ongoing obsession.

The sun has also been out and it feels lovely, especially through my studio windows.  I could do without the insane Galveston humidity… you walk outside and it's like being in a sauna. Ugh.

My plants have been blooming (and dying).  I'll need to make another trip to Tom's Thumb. I'm in the mood for succulents this time around.

If you haven't been watching the news, there was a tornado that hit my hometown, Oklahoma City on May 20.  It was really hard to watch the news without getting emotional.  Luckily all my friends and family were safe, but others were not so lucky.  Donate to redcross.org if you can!  Wishing everyone there a speedy recovery.
