Floral Cemetery

The other day we decided to check out the May flowers over at Old City Cemetery. It was on my list of things to do in Galveston before we move (we missed it last year!). Every spring this graveyard blooms with pretty yellow flowers and I just love the way it looks against the washed out white & grey tombstones. We were walking through trying to find the oldest tombstone, which I think was 1860. I'm sure there's older ones in there. Have to say though, we were a little distracted by a couple taking raunchy photos ON TOP on people's tombstones. People are weird.

It's a pretty lovely cemetery. There's old tombstones, new ones, cracked ones, ornate mausoleums, and simple gravestones. There's a few with interesting stories (and some with secret stories I suppose).

Insects, Galaxies, and Prints!

Hello! These past few weeks have kind of been a blur. I've been sick lately and it doesn't seem to be passing which is quite frustrating. Ugh. But anyway, I have so many tiny pieces I've been working on lately and I love them dearly.

^^ A little galaxy scarab! I've been obsessed with scarabs, beetles, moths, and butterflies lately.

^^ Speaking of moths I have this lady in the works with a lunar moth on her eye. More celestial musings to come!

^^ Some spring cleaning. I'm a terrible person and leave my brushes sitting in solvent forever so I finally got around to giving them a good clean. That and wiping cat hair off all my paint tubes.

^^ Milky Way prints are now in the shop! I really love the colors. Eeee. You can get them here

^^ Omen is also in the shop. Love this little guy. Comes in 5x5 or 8x8 inches.

^^ She's my little print inspector! Ha. Well back to the studio, hope you all have a lovely week. <3

Lately +

Spring is here and I've been a busy bee. Working on a ton of new little (and big) paintings. Think moths, dark butterflies, galaxies, scarabs, bones, and celestial mermaids. I'm pretty excited.

^^ Priming things. Sorry for the terrible phone quality. Yuck.

^^ She has her own window, but she prefers mine for some reason. I think it's because she likes looking at herself in the mirror. She knows she's gorgeous.

^^ This little guy is dry so I could finally scan him. Prints soon!

^^ Found this black Victorian frame in Houston. Love love love. I need to pick up more.

^^ Found this sweet note in my shop reviews. So lovely. <3

^^ These Elie Saab dresses may or may not have influenced my celestial mermaid paintings I'm currently working on (they did).

Stay tuned for in progress pieces. Oh, I'm also going on a mini trip to OKC in April for family and the arts festival. I love spring. <3

Secret's Out

So some of you know I've been working on a little secret project for the past few months, and I'm happy to say the secret is finally out… (drumroll)... my shop will now carry prints + originals + now, JEWELRY! I loved working with metal jewelry several years ago in college and it has been a goal of mine to get back into it. I literally had pages upon pages of necklace ideas in my sketchbook (and still do) so it was time to get my jewelry saw out and start up again (FYI my hands were incredibly sore the first few days).

My first collection, Zodiac, represents a sleek geometric design of the zodiac constellations. I think we all know how much I love constellations at this point ;). Each necklace is made of raw brass and hung on a delicate antique brass chain. Every piece is uniquely handcut and one of a kind. <3

The Zodiac collection is now available in my shop. I'm doing a few moon jewelry pieces next as well as working on some Victorian house paintings. Back to the studio! <3

New Things +

I love skulls. Is that obvious yet? Ha. Here's my newest little guy (first painting of 2014!). I'm not sure what to name him. He's part of my Rituals + Omens series, but I kind of want to name him Omen (like the watercolor one). I don't know. I'll think on it.

I have new pretties coming to the shop soon. I've been working with brass lately (something I haven't done since college) but it feels good to get back into it. And I've been sketching pages and pages of new ideas. Excited!
